Innovation Excellence - Measuring Innovation – what really matters?

The word innovation gets thrown around loosely in many aspects of business, research, and development. But what is the true test of whether something is actually innovative? One way to tell is how strongly people are affected and stand by this innovation. Are authentic innovation and tribal leadership counterparts? I would say so. In Measuring Innovation – what really matters? "We then apply our internal interpretation to the Results we achieve, as well our awareness of the core Beliefs that underlie them, which will impact as to how we “see” the world, in positive or negative frames. These factors impact significantly on our Potential to be, think and do things differently, or not, in the future." By defining what the overall goal or moral is then the frame can be set for design to innovate for. Then by measuring the response from demographic loyalty or popularity, the innovative thing can be tested.

The Guardian - Executives in search of their purpose

Do happy executives lead to healthy leadership? In this article from the Guardian, they explore how executives are transitioning to retirement incentive careers to passion incentives. Will this have a ripple effect of healthier happier work environments? I'd like to think so. When people are truly passionate about the work they are doing others pick up on that. This excitement is contagious; it inspires others also to find what they are passionate about and also attracts those that are equally as passionate about the same ambitions. By executives now finding happy workplaces by following their passions I would assume a trickle-down effect would prevail. For example, in the book Tribal Leadership, they discuss a case study from Zappos where management had to fire a new hire that they had just relocated. After realizing the employee had no intention of putting the customer first and was strictly focused only on the results of his individual duties they had to let him go. His values did not align with their passion and would bring down the positive morale that leads to the quality of customer service that Zappos provides.

Looping back to my thoughts above on authentic, passionate professionals, authentic innovation also plays a role in building tribal leadership. Here they point out that there are four steps to approaching innovation correctly; clarify, ideate, develop, and implement. It's mentioned that knowing your team and following these steps with the goldilocks measurement will lead to powerful results.
